Wall Cladding Structure & Fixings

NCC Version:

NCC 2022 Volume Two

Area of NCC Requirements:

Section H – Structure

Problem:

During inspection of a newly constructed portable home, it was found that different wall battens and screw fixings were used instead of those specified in the approved cladding system. These substitutions did not align with Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions, raising compliance concerns under the NCC.

Solution:

A Performance Solution was developed using expert judgement and comparison to the NCC standards. The substituted timber battens and screw fixings were accepted under certain conditions, including full weather protection from external cladding and insulation wrap. This ensured the structure still met safety and performance standards.

Finalised Report:

The report concluded that the alternative materials comply with the NCC when installed as specified. The approval is limited to this project and does not apply to future builds unless they follow the original manufacturer’s installation guidelines.
